Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 @ HardwareLogic
HardwareLogic review the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 quad core processor and give it a rating of 85/100, writing:
The biggest caveat is the excessive price. Although INTEL lists $999 for the QX6850, most retailers currently have it for between $1100 and $1500, which is entirely too much. The overclocking performance was decent overall (in the 3.7Ghz range), but in the end was hampered by a seriously warm processor and a woefully inadequate stock cooler. Those wanting to get every bit of performance from the QX6850 should definitely invest in a quality water coling kit (if you’re going to blow $1200 on a processor, whats $250 on some good cooling).
In all honesty, I have a hard time recommending the QX6850. Although its sexy compared to what’s currently on the market, it’s a relatively poor value compared to the Q6600 or E6850, and with INTEL putting the finishing touches on their next generation processors, you should pass on the QX6850 and save your money for the next generation monsters.
