MSI NX8600GT Twin Turbo Review @ Hardwarezone

Hardwarezone review the MSI NX8600GT Twin Turbo graphics card which features two separate CMOS chips implemented onboard, both containing different and overclocked video BIOS settings. The user can switch between these two settings by pushing a turbo button on the card. However, switching is not on the fly, since it’s a hardware feature and the users therefore have to shut down their systems before pushing the button. Hardwarezone give this card a rating of 4.5 out of 5 and write in the conclusion:

Now if only MSI had managed to include a quieter cooler, it would have been hard to beat in the market. As it is now, the large and noisy cooler is a weakness that could turn some users away from this product. Add to the fact that no matter how much of a boost one gets with overclocking, the NX8600GT Twin Turbo is still a mid-range graphics card after all. It could be more cost effective to simply buy a default card of a higher caliber, especially so when one factor in the cost of the Twin Turbo, with its solid capacitors and dual BIOS. With a quoted local retail price of around S$225 (~US$150), it is naturally more expensive than the standard GeForce 8600 GT but not overly so and the extreme, overclocked versions from some vendors are in a similar price bracket. For those not willing to spend a bit more for the GeForce 8600 GTS and hoping to get a rather unique card that performs almost as well as a full-fledged 8600 GTS but at a lower price bracket, this MSI NX8600GT Twin Turbo is an ideal candidate.
